In the introduction to Listening to the Earth, John Wood wrote that “Robert ParkeHarrison and Morri Creech are two of the country’s finest artists. Put simply, they are the two best American artists in their respective fields under forty. They are also gifted craftsmen, who share a similar artistic, spiritual, and ecological vision. They both have been listening intently to the earth for many years and recording in images and words what they have heard.” And what they have heard and seen are the sounds and pictures from their Book of Life.
The poems were inspired by and composed specifically for Listening to the Earth and The Book of Life. Morri Creech then went on to publish these poems separately and won the Anthony Hect Poetry Prize in 2005 for Field Knowledge.
